A magnetic filter is a magnet which is connected to the pipework and it catches all the corrosion that floats around the system. Both radiators and copper pipework corrode and this corrosion floats around the system and eventually finds its way into the boiler pump and radiator valves among other things and then starts causing problems. We can fit a magnetic filter to your system which will prolong the life of both your boiler and radiators, and the best bit is that normally fitting a magnetic filter is a fairly simple and inexpensive exercise!
Radiators can over the years be abused, the valves that stick out and pipework gets accidently knocked by people walking past and on the radiators themselves get knocked and pulled. Most leaks from radiators come from where pipes go into the valves as this is the weak spot. Normally fixing a leaking radiator is a simple task and inexpensive. Getting a new boiler can be a bit of a minefield for some. We don’t charge anything to come out and chat to you if you need advice on a new boiler or heating system, it’s a big outlay and it’s important that you get the best that you can within your budget.
There are many types and brands of boilers, some are cheap and will have a short lifespan but you don’t need to buy the most expensive boiler to ensure you get a good one. It’s really about your property and the amount of people living there.
For example a 4 bedroom house with 2 adults and 3 children would need a good middle to high spec boiler as its going to see a lot of use heating a big house and going through a lot of hot water with multiple showers etc3Ü4 whereas a 1 or 2 bedroom flat would need a boiler that was a lot less powerful (and cheaper) as it would be doing half the work.
One thing to remember is that when renewing the boiler you should keep some money in your budget for powerflushing the pipework. A powerflush removes the old corrosion and sludge from the pipework. You don’t want a lot of old corrosion finding its way into your new boiler. Also many boiler manufacturers insist on a powerflush before installation otherwise they will void the boiler warranty, one to remember!

Whether it’s moving into a new property or maybe your current central heating system is just old and had its day sometimes you may want to get a new system for your property. When renewing the system it normally involves lifting floorboards and renewing the pipework underneath and bringing new pipework up out of the floor to feed the new radiators. We would recommend a magnetic filter and a corrosion inhibitor to be installed on all new installations.
Once a new system is installed the property would heat up super quick and will give you a warm and comfortable property.
